February Stylist Q & A – Angela at Bang Salon – The Yards

Q: How long have you been styling hair?

A: I got in to it right after graduating high school and have been styling for the past 20 years.

Q: How many of those years have you been with Bang?

A: I was one of the first stylists at Bang back at the U Street location when they opened with just seven chairs in the salon. I spent six years at U Street before moving to Bang Salon – Metropole, where I worked for about eight years. Now I’ve transitioned over to The Yards. It’s been a journey!

Q: What do you think makes Bang Salon a unique place to go get your hair done? There’s so many offerings here in the city, but why should someone try Bang?

A: First of all, our management is top notch, which means everything else in the salon comes from that high quality management. From the products we use and carry, to the emphasis on continued education, to the people brought on to the Bang team…quality is always top priority.

Q: What does continued education entail?

A: We work with the Redken team to stay up-to-date on the latest cutting and color techniques, proper use of new products and the top trends that are happening in the industry.

Q: What’s your favorite hairstyle or color trend happening right now?

A: I love the funkier color trend! Hot pinks, purples, blue undertones. Those colors used to be reserved for the punk rockers, but now I get professionals who just want to do something different and fun. One of my favorite products for those kinds of colors right now is the Redken Color Rebel Hair Makeup that we carry. It’s a temporary color stick you can use to bring those bright colors in without making a permanent commitment since it comes out in two washes.

Q: Alright, last question..what is your number one hair tip you could give to someone who wants to have healthy and soft hair?

A: Definitely get a “dusting” every 6 to 8 weeks where you come in an keep the ends cleaned up. This prevents split hairs from traveling up and doing more damage. Especially if you want to grow out your hair and maintain length, you might feel tempted to skip cuts and not go in, but it just means you have to get more hair cut off when you do come in, so keep up with those ends!
