Stylist Q & A with Amanda Adams of Bang Salon U Street

Q: How long have you been styling hair and how did you get in to this profession?

A: I graduated cosmetology school in 2006 from West Valley Occupational Center in Los Angeles.

I knew I wanted to become a hairstylist from a really young age. Actually, my friends would let me experiment with hair color and cuts, which was always fun for me, but maybe not always fun for them! Either way, it encouraged me to go to beauty school and pursue that passion as my career.

Q: How many of those years have you been with Bang?

A: I have been with Bang Salon on U Street since August of 2012.

Q: What do you think makes Bang Salon a unique place to go get your hair done? Theres so many offerings here in the city, but why should someone try Bang?

A: Bang Salon is unlike any salon I’ve worked at. We only offer hair services (no nails, no waxing, etc.), which is a guarantee that you’ll be leaving here looking your best, and knowing how to recreate the look because we’re solely focused on your hair. We are also constantly learning through continued education courses that always ahead of new trends and methods in hairstyling.

Q: Whats your favorite hairstyle or color trend happening right now?

A: My favorite color trend still has to be ombré. It’s definitely not getting old or going anywhere any time soon! I also love to freshen up my clients by adding brighter colors that fade to a pastel. Pastels are another unique color choice that you will see everywhere this summer.

Q: Alright, last question..what is your number one hair tip you could give to someone who wants to have healthy and soft hair?

A: If you’re a hot tools addict like I am, you need to be using a heat protector. It’s the only way to keep your hair long, soft and healthy. The number one question I am asked is: “How can I get longer hair faster?” If I see that a client is curling or flat ironing a few times a week using a heat protector will save your ends and encourage healthy, stronger ends.

For blow drying, I love Redken’s Pillow Proof Express Primer, and a little bit of dry shampoo for finishing. For flat ironing or curling I always have Redken Iron Shape 11 Finishing Thermal Spray on hand.
